Trivia - Reader Submitted (Stump the Hersh)
When it comes to trivia, I am convinced that there aren't many (if any) better than the Hersh.
A reader recently submitted a trivia question on Facebook- not surprisingly, I got it wrong and that got me thinking, "Wouldn't it be great if, from time time, we posted a reader submitted trivia question for Hersh?" And so a new segment was born - Stump the Hersh (I know, not very creative... name subject to change). Logistically, here's how it will work:
Readers- send me your questions and answers via email (fiduciarystandard@gmail.com) or Facebook (we do have a For Baseball Junkies facebook page) along with the name you would like to appear on this site (First name, last initial and location). I will periodically pick a question at random to post and I will let you know when it's up so that you can see how it turns out.
Hersh - honor system applies. You won't see the question beforehand and you're not allowed to cheat, at all.
If a reader manages to Stump the Hersh, he will be entered into our Stump the Hersh Hall of Fame.
So, here goes:
From Doug H in Phoenixville, PA
Who is the only player in major league history to hit a grand slam in the All-Star game and who was the pitcher? Bonus points if you can tell me the year.
Hersh... 48 hours to post your response, bud. Good luck

ReplyDeleteFred Lynn against Atlee Hammaker in the 1983 all Star game.
ReplyDeleteHersh is correct... Hall of Famer Fred Lynn hit the only grand slam in the history of the midsummer classic in 1983 off of Atlee Hammaker, earning him All-Star MVP honors. Lynn hit four career all-star game home runs, second to only Stan Musial.
